What happens if I don't make a Will?
If you die intestate i.e. without a Will, this could be the lasting memories you leave behind:
- Months, possibly years, of financial hardship and expense while your affairs are sorted out
- The sale of your home to pay for care costs
- Your husband or wife inheriting some, but not necessarily all your assets
- Your partner inheriting nothing you owned
- The Courts and Social Services deciding who should care for your children
- Your children losing out if your spouse or partner decides to re-marry
- Substantial fees, which could have been avoided, to sort out your estate
- Taxes that could have been avoided
- People whom you neither know nor like claiming from your estate
It's never too early to make a Will, but it can be too late!
